So worried....hard lump on the top of my right shoulder?!

Question:

So worried....hard lump on the top of my right shoulder?

I already asked this question in another catagory, but I didn't get many answers. I am so worried. I recently noticed a hard, bone-like lump on the top of my right shoulder.... it is about the size of a large marble and it is very noticeable when you look at my shoulders. I am seeing the Dr. soon, but I am so concerned about how the appointment will go....worried that cancer could be a possilbity. Am I overreacting or should I expect that the Dr. may need to test for cancer?

Answers:

Any type of unusual lump or bump should be examined as soon as noticed, especially if it appears to be growing. It is good that you are going to a doctor to have this evaluated. Hopefully it will be nothing to be concerned about.

Since you posted in the cancer category I am sure you are concerned that this might be cancer. Might be, but until a doctor examines you and a biopsy done no one here really knows the answer to the question. So, in general, and not saying you have this . . I would be concerned about sarcoma. A sarcoma is a very rare type of cancer that can affect bone or the connective soft tissue in the body. Sarcoma can often appear as a single lump or bump and are often ignored by young people. Rarely is sarcoma painful and young people usually are asymptomatic unless the sarcoma is pressing on a nerve or causing other odd issues.

As for what type of sarcoma, there are over 50 rare and different subtypes of sarcoma. Most can be difficult to diagnose, but it is important for treatment purposes to persist for the definitive diagnosis.

You can read more about sarcoma:

I do not think that you are overreacting at all and I'm glad that you will see a doctor very soon.

Stay strong and with all hope the lump will turn out to be nothing. But if it is cancer than the sooner it is treated the better off you will be.

Best to you.
