Pityriasis vs. Psoriasis?!

Pityriasis vs. Psoriasis?
OK...I've had a dermatologist with a great reputation diagnose my skin condition which started with a small, reddish scaly patch and then grew to spots all over my back as pityriasis rosea. Another doc looked at it (when it was just the scaly patch early on) and diagnosed psoriasis. I was relieved when I got the pityriasis rosea diagnosis from the derm because I was also told that the stuff would go away of its own accord. But I'm getting worried. It's been almost 3 months since the onset of the "herald" patch and the stuff seems to be slowly spreading (a few new spots on my chest within the last week). Could what I have in fact be psoriasis? If the stuff is really pityriasis when will it start to go away? The prescription steroid cream the derm gave me doesn't help at all.
