Has anyone ever discovered they had anxiety because of a medical condition and not JUST anxiety?

Like from thyroid, or heart or something and you weren't just crazy and had anxiety for no reason.

And be no means do I mean to imply anything by the bold JUST in my statement. That is how the doctors say it, it's JUST anxiety. I know how real it is and horrible it can really be, so no harm meant, just trying to ask the right way.

Answers:

Anxiety can also be caused by going through menopause. I developed panic attacks when I started going through peri-menopause, when my hormones started fluctuating. Unfortunately, I didn't figure out that was causing it until years later.

Once you have had anxiety, it is true that doctors treat you differently. They see every symptom you have as an anxiety symptom, which can lead to dangerous situations. If your doctor does not take your symptoms seriously, I recommend that you find a doctor who will. There was an article in the newspaper a few years ago about a woman who died from a heart attack on the way home from the emergency room because they had told her she was only having a panic attack.

Even the "experts" who treat anxiety disorders are usually woefully backward. Most of them believe that anxiety disorders are primarily psychological. It has been my observation that most anxiety appears to have a physical basis. If you treat the physical problem, most people will get better.
