Fatigue and weight loss... not thyroid?!

Question:

Fatigue and weight loss... not thyroid?

About six months ago I lost ten pounds in a month without any change in diet or lifestyle, and then for the past six months I've been experiencing extra fatigue--sleeping more than 12 hours a day most days. I have a swollen thyroid, but my levels are normal; my fam practitoner put me on synthroid, but I've only been on it for less than a month. II just went to an endicrinologist and he tested me for cortisol levels and testosterone levels--the tests aren't back yet, but he didn't explain at all why he was doing those tests. Can anyone explain how cortisol and testosterone would affect me? Why am I so tired?

Also--I found a lump in my breast in March and had it biopsied--it was a fibroadenoma. Is any of this connected?

Answers:

You could have Addison's disease, which is adrenal gland insufficiency. The adrenal gland produces hormones, and regulates many body processes. Your thyroid may be swollen because it is working too hard to produce enough thyroid hormone, which would indicate an overall hormone problem.
The fibroadenoma has nothing to do with your other symptoms, they are extremely common.
Make sure you get a COMPLETE physical, with blood tests including blood counts, liver tests, etcetera, plus any pelvic and colon tests also.
Hope you feel better soon
