Any adults get MOLLUSCUM, but you're perfectly healthy?!

Question:

Any adults get MOLLUSCUM, but you're perfectly healthy?

So I went to the doctor about a week ago because I had about 10 bumps on my chest. I thought it was acne, he said "Nope, it's MOLLUSCUM". Apparently that's a nasty little virus that causes bumps on your body, that children can get very often, and when adults get it it is generally considered an STD - but it's on their genitals. Well, I've not been busy in the romance department, so I know mine isn't from sex! Plus, mine's on my chest. Maybe I got it from exercise equipment or something...who knows.

He had me take an HIV test just to be on the safe side, because he said that sometimes adults with weaker immune systems get it. I said "Oh, sure, absolutely." I'm a safe guy, so I knew it'd be negative (which it was), so that means that I really did just catch it by chance.

It got me wondering - How many other healthy adults have caught Molluscum before? Mine is gone, finally. He plucked them all off my chest (o-u-c-h!) and it's healing.

Answers:

My son got them on his leg, my daughter on her face and chest. Silly me, I didn't worry about it being contagious because my doctor said "childhood illness" he showed me how to remove the hard center and sent me home with my kids to do it. No surprise they popped up on my hands a short time later. Mine appeared all at once, my kids on the other hand got a few and then weeks later would show up with another one or two, so I'm not really sure if you should be concerned about getting more or not. The good news is they're benign and you can only spread them if another person comes into contact with the fluid, if I remember correctly, so it won't ruin the romance. Hope you get back to 100% soon. Good Luck.
