Brown spot on neck that changes color with illness?!

Question:

Brown spot on neck that changes color with illness?

There is a spot on my neck, no more than two centimeters in diameter, located near my front node. It varies from different shades of brown on normal days. But if I've got a cold or other infection, the spot is bright red. It was first noticed about four years ago and I've had it looked at by a doctor. He said that is was perhaps an insect bite. But of course, I was suffering from an ear infection that day so it was bright red and swollen. So I'm thinking that he got it wrong. But if that's the case, what else could it be? Any clues?

Answers:

This is interesting! I have a brownish-red spot on my hand the size of a dime. It becomes bright red when I am sick, stressed, overheated, etc. I call it my "mood spot". I've had it since grade school and I'm 45. If your healthcare provider isn't worried, you shouldn't worry either. However, if your "spot" changes color beyond what's normal for you, begins to bleed without cause, or develops irregular borders, see a physician.
