Severe cough what to do????/HELP?!

Question: Severe cough what to do????/HELP?
Hey So Im an asthmatic and I just got over a pretty bad cold which ended up giving me a sinus infection but now for the past 3 days ive been coughing uncontrollably like once every 5 to 10 seconds.I went to the hospital 2 days ago and they have me on prednisone and azithromyacin and some other meds for asthma.Anyway do you guys know anything that can help me stop coughing so much?Im starting to lose my voice because of it and my stomach is killing me because of all the violent coughing.

Answers:

Yes, but you may find this a bit tricky if your sinuses are blocked.

The best way to stop coughing is to breathe through your nose as much as you can. This can also help you with your asthma too in the future when something triggers it off.

When something triggers your asthma, the instinct is to breathe faster (you can't help this because you can get a bit panicky at times) but doing the opposite... breathing through your nose & as slowly as you can, counting in your mind slowly, actually calms you down & can help you through an attack easier.

About your cough... breathing through your nose will definitely help reduce your coughing.
Asthmatics are usually mouth-breathers, so this might be difficult for you, but try to do it as best you can. When you're over this cough, try & train yourself to be a nose-breather & you will find that your breathing will improve & you'll have less sore throats & colds in the future.

Hope you get well soon

I bought the best cough syrup at the health food store. http://www.honeygardens.com/elder.htm

Also drink a lot of tea with honey. If you can find marshmallow root powder, make tea from it and it will help lubricate your throat. Also you can find echinacea propolis spray and other throat sprays at the health food store. The one I have is from Herb Pharm. Use cough drops too!
