Is this improvement in a stroke situation?!

Question: Is this improvement in a stroke situation?
Since Tuesday my 91 year old grandmother had a stroke and has been in a deep sleep since last night. We were all visiting her and she finally opened her eyes so we kept saying can you hear us? Are you ok? Are you hurting? She said in a very weak voice "I'm ok" I have been trying to read and educated myself on strokes and everyone is different but when the Dr. Came in yesterday he was on the more grim size saying her age goes against her and it was a bad stroke. It was on the left side of her brain. I love my grandma dearly and really hope that was a good sign. She went back in the deep sleep and the doctor will come again this morning. I'm at work so I won't be able to visit til later. Can patients this old pull through? The only medical problem she has is otherwise is osteoporosis and has lived a healthy life, never drank or smoke a day in her life. Has anyone been in a similar situation? This is the first time I've had a stroke affect one of my family members so forgive me if I sound so naive. Just hoping for the best and please no copying and pasting. I've read a lot, I just want to hear personal stories.

Answers:

It is really hard to say if your grandma can pull through. It is harder on the elderly to bounce back after a stroke, and depends on the damage done. Most people have to be in a rehab after a stroke, they need PT and OT (therapies) to do the things they use to, if they are able to do them at all. However, I have seen the oldest(sorry, no disrespect) patients bounce back like it was nothing. Just spend as much time with her as you can, grandmas are sooooo special! She may get frustrated or even depressed, A lot of changes go on after a stroke, but if she is able to communicate that she is o.k. that is a great sign!:)
