Answers:

I've been coughing and sick for 6+ weeks too. I've been taking Ibuprofen to stop my cough (400mg as needed.) I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to take the Oxycodone. Are you afraid it will damage your liver or do you not want to take it because it's a narcotic? Why not continue what you know to be working? Curing a viral infection--you just have to wait it out until your immune system can fight the virus. Did your doctor confirm with a test that your infection is indeed "viral?" It could be bacterial, fungal, or even an allergy to something around you. I think doctors are not taking the extra effort to diagnose these "infections" we have. They just quickly prescribe the antibiotics (probably because they have to deal with those ******* who demand 'something' without fully understanding what they have OR they just need to get patients out of the hospital as quickly as possible to meet a quota) and then the media pumps out articles about how scientist are discovering antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria.

I'm in the same boat as you. Maybe it's best to just wait it out, but find comfort in knowing that there are others like us out there right now suffering with you.
