Everything about brain tumors?!?!

Question: Everything about brain tumors?!?
My friend who was my x a while back just found out he has a tumor in the back of his head. And I know his gonna have to go through radiation and chemo treatments because I watch a lot of medical shows what are the side affects of chemo and radiation? I really wanna be there for him if its anything serious. And im really afraid what do I need to know about brain tumors? Thanks

Answers:

We'll assume for argument's sake that it's brain cancer. He will have surgery if he hasn't already, to remove as much as possible. He will get the staples out 2 weeks later and be told the name of his tumor and the grade. Then they will refer him for his radiation treatments. He will have a mask molded for his head, after getting more scans for comparison on where to direct the radiation beams. About a month after surgery, with time to heal, he will begin 6 weeks, 5 days a week, of radiation therapy and will also begin his chemo of temodar, 7 days a week for 6 weeks. He will get an mri every other month. To keep from puking his guts up, zofran will probably be given along with the temodar. After all that, he will have a month with no treatment. Then he will start up a high dose of temodar, 5 days a month for at least 6 months. He will lose his taste buds. He could end up with constant dry throat, like me. He could end up with constant minor headaches, like me. He could end up with an enlarged, squishy thyroid, like me. His balance could be off, like me. He could end up with numbess in his arm and fingers, like me. He will continue getting mris for a long time, stretching from every other month to every 3 months, to every 6 months, etc... He will have a cbc before every mri. He will recuperate rather quickly after his treatments and start to feel better. His taste buds will finally get back to normal. His chemo brain may never go away... Now, if it's just a benign tumor, he'll just have radiation...

i had brain cancer

First thing to do is find out the exact name (medical term) for the tumor your friend has. Then you can Google it and find out lots of information (look for reliable websites, such as Mayo Clinic or hospital that treats cancer, or National Cancer Institute). If you are just looking up brain tumors, there are too many types to get accurate information. Also, when you find out what chemo drug he is getting you can find out what the side effects might be.

Each brain or head tumour has a name. There is a lot on line about every sort of brain or head tumour.

They can cause dramatic changes in personality, just googled it.

Are you sure it is a brain tumor and not outside of the skull?
