Pathophysiology Help?!

Question: Pathophysiology Help?
Can't find this answer in my book anywhere would really appreciate help, not just looking for answer if possible give me a source so I can understand the answer.

Which of the following statements correctly describes a direct end-effect of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system?
A) Angiotensin II causes systemic vasoconstriction.
B) Aldosterone promotes the excretion of sodium and water in the renal tubules.
C) Renin promotes sodium and water reabsorption in the collecting tubules.
D) Aldosterone increases the permeability of the collecting tubules to water only.

Answers:

Hey, no source on this one - just Medschool and USMLE prep.

Ok, so the question is looking for the direct end effect of the RAAS.

A) Is a correct statement, and likely the correct answer. Angiotensin II, produced from angiotensinogen with the help of both ACE and Renin, is a systemic and potent vasoconstrictor. It also goes on to release aldosterone from the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal gland.

B) is an incorrect statement, as Aldosterone promotes reabsorption of sodium and water, not excretion.

C) Renin does eventually promote sodium and water reabsorption in the collecting tubules, but via an indirect manner. (It acts through ATII and finally aldosterone to exert these effects.) Thus, C is not the most direct answer we have.

D) D is an incorrect statement - Aldosterone increases permeability of the tubules to both sodium and water.
