What's the likelihood of surviving with fluid in the lungs?!

Question: What's the likelihood of surviving with fluid in the lungs?
My family is very healthy but it's been almost tragic watching my mom for the past week partake in what has almost become a grieving process because of my grandmother being in the hospital.

Ultimately, she was admitted because of an irregular, erratic hearbeat ranging from 130-150 which really is a little less than the heartbeat range of a baby in utero. But she has been in there for a week and had echocardiograms done, and really I've yet to hear any diagnosis or true problem.

However, they said that fluid has accumulated in her lungs while in the hospital and wasn't present when she was admitted (seeing as immediately they took an x-ray). Any guesses for what is to come or a prognosis? Is it plausible to assume fair skies may soon be coming again?

I'm seventeen years old and trying to enjoy my final three months of high school and will be traveling abroad next week for spring break, but it's just been difficult seeing my mom go through this pain of the unknown of what is wrong. I want to alleviate the pain in any way I possibly can, but am just afraid it may be too late.

Thanks in advance.

Answers:

First of all there is no comparison between the heart rate of a fetus and that of an elderly adult. Normal adult HR is 60 to 100 and 150 is definitely called tachycardia. I am going to guess this person has developed CHF or congestive heart failure which simply means the heart is worn out and flabby. It's pumping action is weak and the result of blood backing up which leads to fluid in the lungs. While there are treatments for this there is no cure and it does become progressively worse.
