Question: How to get rid of old blood in Abdominal cavity?
Can the body get rid of old blood in the abdominal cavity naturally or with help? Or does this have to be removed through surgery? Also does anyone know what the complications are of blood settling in The abdominal cavity and what are the symptoms of this? Where would the blood go if not taken care of through surgery? If the body can get rid of the old blood then how does it do that? Finally if left untreated what are the complications of this to ones health?

The body will eventually break down the blood and it will resolve (sort of how a bruise disappears). Large amounts of blood can become infected in which case percutaneous drainage may be necessary. Blood can also cause irritation and lead to adhesions (scar tissue).
