How long does it take for a cut to get infected?!

Question: How long does it take for a cut to get infected?
My friend has a cut on his wrist that needs stitches. He has had this cut for about a year now. He keeps it covered with band-aids. It always puss, and comes through the band-aid. Can and how would this affect his health?

It can take any amount of time to get infected, depending on when you are exposed to the parasite that is infecting you. In theory it can kill him but so can a pinprick. If the skin on and around the cut is very warm and/or red then get to a doctor ASAP because it is almost for sure infected, if the wound is open you can put neosporin or bacitracin and it will block any infection that isn't there already. The symptoms of skin infections are basically skin around the wound is warm, skin is red, skin is swollen, skin is tender, increasing pain associated with the wound, pus discharge (which as you stated is clearly there!), and if the wound got larger then it is almost for sure infected as infection spreads. So if you have some of these then maybe you want to go to a doctor.
