No doctor gives antibiotics for a viral infection and if you have left-over antibiotics in your house, do not do this - it is dangerous because it makes your body more resistant to future antibiotics. You treat the symptoms - extra fluids, rest, tylenol or motrin regularly for fever/aches, headache, cough medication or a decongestant, run a humidifier in the bedroom where you sleep. You can probably treat this yourself. Then, if you continue getting worse and worse even after doing all that is recommended, then it would be time to see your family doctor.

No, it is not okay. First of all, the flu is a virus. Antibiotics only work on bacteria. Secondly, overuse of antibiotics creates superbugs that can't be killed by antibiotics, like MRSA and VRSA.
