You have clearly already developed some irreversible disease. Emphysema does not improve, however once you stop smoking the rate of deterioration of your COPD should slow considerably.

It should improve yes. Studies have shown that from the point you stop smoking within 10 years ALL adverse side effects from smoking will have gone all together. But improvement in smell taste and breathing should be noticeable significantly within a month or two.
It depends how long you were smoking for. Smoking does affect you in the long run so it may not improve and if it does, it will be by little.
