oxliplatin is an anti-cancer chemo drug. It's classified as an "alkylating agent" It's used to treat colon or rectal cancer that has metastasized. It is often given in combination with other anticancer drugs, (fluorouracil and leucovorin). It's given IV, no pill. The amount a person gets depends on the patient's weight, height, general health and of course type of cancer.
As far as side effects, they will go away after treatment is completed. They do cause a feeling of difficulty with swallowing, shortness of breath, jaw spasm. abnormal tongue sensation and feeling of chest pressure. Mind you, not all the side effects are felt. If only one person experiences any of these things during testing of the drug, then it has to be noted. It doesn't mean everyone will feel these. You just have to trust your doctor's judgment.
