Question: How much time does he have to live?

A very good friend of mine has been diagnosed with cancer around 4 and a half years ago. Im not sure of the type of cancer,i just know that he has had a tumor in his neck area. His doctors told him he had 4 to 5 years. That was 4 and a half years ago. He has a daughter who will be 6 this year, and is worried about possible small symptoms because of the year count. This would be his sixth year and he is doing fairly well. Nothing that i can see is wrong except his weight loss. He will never get that back, no matter how many times he tries to eat. He has gone from a happy 215 pound man, to a frail yet some-whatly smiling 170- something pound male. His chemo was horrible, so he said and stopped treatmens after he said he would surely die if he did another treatment. I want to believe that this will never come back, but no cancer goes away forever, right? I hate to put a number on someone's life. But i have to know. Any experience or doctor that can tell me. Also, he is scared to go to the doctor. His girlfriend tells him to go because of the family he has, but he is scared of the outcome. I would be aswell if in his shoes. So i took matters into my own hands..............help........ :(

Not a doctor. But the news often said it. If you maintain a cheerful and carefree life, you will live a lot longer than you expected. My advice is to take him to a place where there is breeze... Calm place.. My mum's friend had cancer. She was going to die in 3 months. But its already 3 years and she's still alive and kicking.. Keep him cheerful and he might have a longer life span. Dont be sad, buddy.....

My Mother had cancer about 15yrs ago and she is 93yrs old.
He should be going to a doctor for a blood test, because if the white cells are elevated, then it is possible it has returned, and if caught in time can be cured, but if he does not want anymore Chemo, then what is that telling you?

We cant tell you anything if you dont tell us which cancer he has specifically. In addition, it is very strange for your doctor to say you have 4-5 years to live due to cancer. Im not trying to worry you, but i doubt your doctor a bit and i suggest doing a bit of research on this doctor.

No one can tell you a thing without knowing what kind of cancer he had and the stage.
It would be VERY unusual for a doctor to tell anyone they had 4-5 years to live.
