Could soreness and sensitivy in the underarm be a sign of breast cancer?!

Question: Could soreness and sensitivy in the underarm be a sign of breast cancer?
I've had the pain for a couple days, and today it's gotten progressively worse. I may just be overreacting because my Grandmother died from the cancer, but other people's input would definitely help!

Probably not. Depending on your age and your family history having this evaluated might be a good idea.

Unlikely.

You don't mention your age, which is very important. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s, fewer than 0.1% of those diagnosed with it are under 30, only 5% are under 40 and most (80%) are over 50.

Pain is rarely a sign of breast cancer; most people diagnosed with it have felt no pain at all.

Even those of us who've had breast cancer (and are therefore at greater risk) are advised to wait two weeks before consulting a doctor if we have a concern like this; that way, if it's hormonal, it has a chance to settle down. So no need to rush to the doctor - monitor this for a couple of weeks, and see your doctor if you're still concerned.

Breast cancer (like other cancers) is rarely hereditary - only 5 - 10% of cases are hereditary, and they are due to a rare inherited faulty gene.. Breast cancer diagnosed after the age of 50 is even less likely to be hereditary.

A sign that it MIGHT (only might) be hereditary is when several members of the same side of a family have had it, especially if some have developed it at a younger than usual age.

One second degree relative having had it does not increase your risk. With one in eight women developing breast cancer (over a lifetime of about 80 years), it's a rare family that hasn't had at least one member with non-hereditary breast cancer

I would definately make an appointment to get that checked out, seeing it may be hereditary.

no.
