Possible food allergies?!

Question: Possible food allergies?
Tonight, I had a little sushi and it had avocado in it. One part of my tongue started to itch and hurt a little when I push it against my teeth. I also have this problem when I eat bananas. The top of my mouth and the back of my throat start itching. The feeling goes away after a while so I don't really think much of it. Is this a food allergy or something?

Are you allergic to latex, by any chance? People who are allergic to latex are very likely to also be allergic to bananas, avocados, kiwi, and chestnuts. (It's called a "cross-reaction.") That's because all these foods have similar proteins that your body mistakes for latex proteins that cause allergic reactions. Even if you are not allergic to latex, it would make sense for you to be allergic to avocados, since they have proteins that resemble the allergens in bananas.

Do you only have a problem with raw bananas or avocado? If it only bothers you when it is raw, then what you probably have is oral allergy syndrome. It is related to pollen allergies.
