Can both High blood pressure and Low blood pressure cause stroke?!

Question: Can both High blood pressure and Low blood pressure cause stroke?
It sounds like both can but this isn't exactly explained in my text book so I'm not sure, plus I cant find much online that explains WHY. I know low blood pressure(hypotension) can cause many types of strokes due to having low blood flow (ischemia)...BUT what about high blood pressure(hypertension)..if extreme? And HOW or WHY does that happen? I'd really apprieciate sites. thanks.

Answers:

Low blood pressure usually does not cause stroke. It is high blood pressure that causes strokes, often from a vessel that bursts due to the pressure and bleeds into the brain called a hemorrhagic stroke. There can also be a blood clot from somewhere else in the body that lodges in the brain, causing an ischemic stroke. You can go to WebMd.com and type in stroke in the search line and read up on this condition and it's causes
