Do you think I have cancer? Please help me...?!

Question: Do you think I have cancer? Please help me...?
I am in the hospital for pneumonia, and I am not getting better, and with the X-Ray, I seem to be getting worse. The doctor said I might have cancer, because something else is showing on the X-Rays and cat scan things. They are about to do another test, and I am so scared. I'm 15, and I don't want to have cancer... What will happen if I have it? What are the chances? Please help. I am almost crying, I am so scared, and nervous. I don't want to die...

Answers:

I'm sorry to hear how difficult this is especially as you sound so cheerful in your other questions.

I think your hospital is very casual about lung cancer. In most hospitals, you would go straight down for an MRI. Are you sure they used Xrays to check your lungs? Most places use CTs and any cancer would show up quite clearly.

Your chances of dying of lung cancer at 15 are even less then your chance of being hit by lightening, I'm glad to say.

Nobody wants to have cancer, especially someone your age. But worrying about it before there's a diagnosis made won't do you any good. Odds are in your favor that it's something other than cancer, given your age and provided your family history doesn't include cancer in the family. Cancer can certainly strike at any age for unknown reasons, however, your youth is beneficial factor should this be the case as you will be stronger physically than say an 80 year old if you have to undergo treatment. Best bet for you would be try to relax, ask many questions of the doctors and nurses around you, and hope for the best and not the worst. If you've had pneumonia before this time, it could just be scarring from past infections. Remain positive, and good luck.

There's NO way they would tell you "it might be" anything. Doctors don't say anything till they are positive. And usually don't even tell you what they're really looking at till certain.
