Is it possible to smell a drug addict?!

Question: Is it possible to smell a drug addict?
I had my brother in my family who have a history of all sorts of drugs. He had a particular smell when he use to take Heroine.

Two years passed my bro is in rehab,

Today a person came by the door asking to give him money for people who are physically challenged. He had the same smell on him of my bro when he was on drugs. Furthermore, his clothes were not so appropriate to go door to door for charity, he looked scruffy, and illiterate.

I gave him money because resisting a drug addict is not a good idea.

Is it possible to know if a person is on drugs such as heroine by their smell?

Yes, there are many smells that people associate with meth smoke - sometimes sweet (like an air freshener), other times like burnt food or a self-cleaning oven. Others describe the smell of chemicals burning, or a burnt plastic odor. While impure meth is said to produce a burning smell when smoked, many of these associated smells are likely due not to the actual smell of the meth smoke but, instead, the efforts of the paranoid smoker to cover up any possible odor with even stronger, recognizable smells. Meth itself is odorless, and not all users smoke meth; it can be dissolved in water and injected, swallowed in pill form, snorted as a powder, taken as a rectal suppository or absorbed via the urethra.
Grass is also smoked and most can detect the smell of this. Heroine is also smoked, what you're probably smelling is the smoke remains, just as you would someone that smokes cigarettes. If not, perhaps something more disease oriented...a dying liver, a skin abscess (from injection) or just poor hygiene/oral care known for chronic drug abusers/users, the sweat may reek of by-products, similar to someone who has overdone it with garlic tablets being able to smell the garlic in their sweat.

Depending on the drug being used, yes. Meth will put off a kind of sweet smell, crack a metallic smell and heroin has a unique smell, similar to that of a very large persons sweat. The reason you can smell it is that when we sweat some of whatever we have ingested, smoked, shot up or any other way of introducing something into our body's, comes out through our pores.

3 years of drug addiction, 61 days of rehab and tons of classes during my recovery. And Woohoo! Six years, one month and two days in recovery baby!
