Do I have strep throat or just a sore throat?!

Question: Do I have strep throat or just a sore throat?
So, this morning I woke up with an extremely bad sore throat. I can't swallow and it is uncomfortable to breathe.

It's on the right side of my throat, and my right ear also hurts.

Yesterday I thought I might have had a mild fever, but after taking an ibuprofen, it went away.

This is easily the worst pain I've felt in long time. I would describe it as an 8.5 out of 10.

Is it strep? Should I see a doctor?

Go see a doctor. There are two possible outcomes:

1. It is strep.
This is bad. Strep can be very uncomfortable, and can become Scarlet Fever if left untreated, as it did with me in 7th grade. I was almost hospitalized.

2. It is not strep.
Congratz! You don't have strep! There's a good chance it's viral. Go home, drink lots of fluids, get some sleep, and wait until you feel better. Keep up on the ibuprofen, and I would suggest eating some ice cream :D
Cold food can help reduce any swelling in the throat.
Plus ice cream makes EVERYTHING better.

Get someone to shine a flashlight in your mouth. If there are BIG red bumps in the back or white dots on your tougne then it's possibly strep. And if you slept with your fan on it could probably just be sore.

Since your pain is so severe, you should see a doctor to find out for sure if it is strep or another type of infection.
