Will me skin ever be clear again?!

Last year around May 2009 i started seeing dark brown spotting in my face around the cheek area and i started washing my face hoping it would come off soon, then months pass and it didn't come off. So i started seeing some skin peeling off and where a little bit of skin peeled off is where the dark spots would form after a while. i went to a dermatologist and they prescribed me 2 medicines Clindamycin phoshate topical lotion and Tretinoin cream 0.05% it didn't seem to be working and im wondering if it will ever go away and if anyone knows what its called.. he told me if was Sunburn inflammation but i looked it up and it doesn't look like that. my skin is really soft and smooth, and i have no pimples or anything its just those dark brown spots that ruins it all... PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE IT OUT.
