It sounds like you are getting a middle ear infection. It is easy to get when you are congested with a cold, and especially if you are blowing your nose with undue force. The bugs can travel up from the throat and up to the ear via the connecting Eustachion tube. Normally this tube aerates the middle ear, and equalizes the air pressures on either side of the ear drum. Whenever you swallow or yawn it opens up the tube, you hear a clicking sound in your ear and the pressures equalize. When you have an infection or blockage, it will often cause pain when you try to do this.

First you need to be careful blowing your nose. Don't blow through only one nostril, and don't blow with force. If your snot is too thick, try using steam inhalations to loosen the secretions. Speaking from experience, it also soothes the ear, and helps to open up the tube. Either simply breathe the hot fumes from very hot water (do be careful), or add something medicinal like Vicks Vaporub, or Tinc Benzoin. Do this several times a day, with a towel wrapped over your head.

Sitting upright or an angle instead of lying completely flat can help too.The congestion in your ear may increase when you lie flat and the fluid building up has nowhere to drain out. If your ear pain doesn't get better, or you get more deaf, then you should get a checkup and possibly antibiotics.

It sounds like you have the common cold. Just give it a few more days and the congestion should go away.

I experience this far too often whenever I catch a cold.
