Question: Serious question, If a cure was found for all cancers would the government let it be known?

Yes it would. And already today, many cancers are cured on a daily basis. Most of them through surgery, but some of them are treated with additional radio-/chemotherapy. And some cancers are cured by chemotherapy alone. The purpose of a preventive lifestyle wouldn't vanish just because we had a cure. Prevention will always be preferable to have the disease and then cure it.
If you want a conspiratorial view at it, you could say that the government would have economical interest in a well running tobacco industry etc. because of the taxes, lobbyists etc.
And there are lots of reasons why the establishment really want to find a cure. Here are some of them:
1) Owners/employees (And their love ones) of pharmaceutical companies suffer from cancer too.
2) Researchers wouldn't be able to keep their mouth shut if they found a miraculous cure or even a major breakthrough.
3) Progress in cancer treatment is happening even though not as fast as we all would like to. Some cancers are even easily cured.
4) Pharmaceutical companies wouldn't lose money for finding a cure - They would increase their income considerably.
5) Also members of governments (and their love ones) sometimes get cancer.
Interesting Question:
The government might hide scared that the people on the street will drink more and therefore create more havoc. The health of the people would obviously ruin. So will the governement keep it a secret?
Advantages of keeping it a secret -
-Health will be better.
-People will be more careful
-More money will be given to hospitals to cure people in First Stage Cancer, thus, more income tax
-Less spread of diseases
-Growth (as people wont be sick due to cancer)
Disadvantages of keeping it a secret -
-Hundreds, or thousands of people will die since there is no cure = The country's name will be ruined and therefore ruining: Tourism, Finance, Political Stability, Economic Stability etc.
-Money has to payed to the doctors so they dont reveal the secret
ALTHOUGH if the government released the info:
Advantages:
-People would get sick and go to the hospital THUS increasing the amount of money the hospital gets and therefore increasing INCOME TAX
-More fame on a GLOBAL Scale
Disadvantges:
-The treatment would be expensive so people would still be careful
-The very rich would create havoc by smoking/drinking because they could be cured
So this is a debate, in a way but we will probably find out soon.
Ok, look at it like you were the government and scientist told you they found a sure fire cure for all cancers You investigate all the scientists it would put out of work, all the cancer doctors it would effect all the cancer research facilities it would close and cancer hospitals and all the people who work for cancer research ie: nurses,, physicians assistants,, nurses aids, janitorial people, pharmaceutical companies etc etc, you get my point by now.
The numbers would be astronomical. Now you figure out all the tax money from all these people paid to the government, all the monet Doctors pay to their employees from which they pay tax on.
Instead of getting paid all those tax dollars, they would have to spend tax dollars to pay all these people.
The number would be in the BILLIONS of dollars. So I ask you would you divulge a cancer cure to the public? Oh, and by the way, there really is a cure for cancer already and has been for years.
Just because something is curable, does not mean you want to face the cure.
Gangrene is "cureable" - by amputation. Does this mean you would be happy to risk gangrene??
At the moment the Goverment in this country spends millions on cancer treatment each year (our health care is socialised). I am sure they would be happy to be able to redirect those funds elsewhere.
I doubt that the government is powerful enough to snuff out a cure for cancer. If a scientist discovered this would he really choose the White House as the first people to contact on his new find.
There are other ways that government can satisfy the need for finance. If we all started smoking again imagine how much money they would get from tax.
But there's no way of knowing for sure. It is possible.
i think and hope they would becuase what about everyone else that was born with it i think that they would/might just make everything that is cancer inducing illegal and if they see that they werent born with it they would go to jail and they would cure them. thats a good question because what if they have found on eand there not telling us this is going to make me think for a while
Sounds too much like a conspiracy theory to buy into it. If a cure were found how many people would have to be bribed to keep it quiet. The gov. isn't one person but interesting question none the less.
This would have serious financial implications for the economy with even more people living longer.

Absolutely not. Cancer is "big industry". There are natural cures for most cancers.
I doubt it,all they think about is the cost.People wouldn't deliberately put themselves at risk,cancer is such a cruel disease and the treatment is almost as cruel believe me.............
The Govts., have their own limitations to go ahead against the subtle influence of the Vested interests.
