Can you get rabies if you were in the same room with a bat, but never touched it!

Question: Can you get rabies if you were in the same room with a bat, but never touched it?
Last night there was a bat in my parents room that was flying around while they were sleeping. I walked in because my mom got me and i looked above my head and saw it hanging from the ceiling. I never touched the bat, but my dad did touch the bat with a towel to get it down. Then he let the bat out side and he said it fell to the ground and then slowly flew away. Should we get tested for rabies?

No, especially since the bat likely didn't even HAVE rabies.

if you wake up with a bat flying in your room you have to catch it and test it, theres is no way to tell if you were bitten by a bat while sleeping. your parents should begin the vaccination immediatley and if the bat is found not to be rabid then the vaccination does not need to be complete, but bats are considered rabid until proven other wise and your parents sleeping in a room with one could easily get bitten and never know it if sleeping. rabies is almost 100% fatal once symptoms begin and its a horrible way to die. this should be taken serious and not left to yahoo answers. your parents should go to the emergeny room and be given the vaccine

there's no way to test people or animals for rabies until they are sick with the illness but at that stage its far too late

YOUR PARENTS NEED TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM NOW or with in 48 hours of discovering the bat

First, next time, don't let the bat go. It sounds cruel, but rabies is worse. Save the bat (dead, sorry to say) and have the bat tested. Almost every town will do that.

You didn't say what part of the country you live in. If you live in a cold area, then the bat was probably sick or confused (maybe rabies0 if it came inside. Bats seldom leave their area in the cold...unless they're sick, and rabies is pretty common in bats.

Yes, you can get rabies even if you didn't touch the bat. You might have touched its saliva, which will carry the rabies...however, you may not need to get tested, but you DO need to speak to your doctor. He or she will be able to determine if you need testing.

You're all probably fine, but call the doctor or local health department for advice. They'll know if bat rabies is common in your area.

Rabies is contracted through a bite. Saliva enters the bloodstream of the victim. Not really any need to worry if no one got bit.

That sucks! It might be to late, you probably have rabies! Go get tested now!

JK.. you have to be bitten

oh my god what a silly question hahahahahah............
but in all seriousness, yes, you probably have contracted rabies and will die...
sorry!

No you guys will be fine, you have to be bitten!!!

no you cant get rabies from looking at a bat ..hehehe thats funny... im sorry if you was really serious

No? If the bat didn't bite you your fine... it's not an airborne disease...
