Having pain breathing, chest pains, and constant drowsiness?!

Question: Having pain breathing, chest pains, and constant drowsiness?
For three years I've had trouble breathing and this dull chest pain that feels like something is constricting my chest when I try to breathe. I have to open my mouth very wide to breathe, and sometimes I still cannot catch my breath. I'm always sleepy, but my appetite and weight have remained the same, no fever, and no headaches.

It doesn't happen year round, but once every year, usually during the beginning or middle of the year. I've been in and out of the ER and allergist's office each year and every year they say nothing is wrong, or it's asthma. Even after taking the asthma medicine I still have trouble breathing. I've tried breathing exercises and different ways of breathing, and my parents tell me nothing is wrong. But it still hurts to breathe, and sometimes it feels like something is crushing my windpipe, and others, my chest is be constricted. Lasts for a total of a minute or two each hour, and the only time I get any peace is if I'm running a short distance, strangely enough.

I did have pneumonia a few years ago, maybe 4, or 5 years ago. My parents and doctors tell me I'm fine, and google does nothing since chest pain, drowsiness, and shortness of breathe are common symptoms of a lot of diseases. What could possibly be wrong with me?

Answers:

Well, as you said, there are quite few possibilities as to what your condition is. There is not, however, not enough specific information to really pinpoint your problem.

Your age and gender affect possibilities. Also, does the pain occur on both sides of your chest, or is it more localized? Is there a rapid heart rate associated with these symptoms? Have you had any major or minor thoracic injuries in the past, or exposure to harmful chemicals and substances? (recreational drugs, chemical vapors, asbestos, etc.) Do your symptoms occur within certain pollen and mold seasons? Is the onset of the pain and symptoms gradual or sudden, and how severe are they typically?

Questions and answers like this should be asked and pointed out in order to effectively make a diagnosis. Talk to your doctor about this, and be very specific.
