proactive made my skin worse?!

Question: Proactive made my skin worse?
Hello,

I thought I'd come on here and ask about skincare problems, etc.

So, I'm 20, female, and for about the past 8 months I have been getting terrible belimishes on my chin. My skin is completely clear everywhere else.
I bought proactiv about a month ago and used it for about three weeks before stopping because it made my skin so incredibly dry, it hurt. I found that it didn't really clear my skin up, it kind of just made the blemishes hard on the surface.
Now, my skin is worse than it has ever been. I don't know why this is. Could this be from the proactiv or do you think it could just be a hormonal thing?

I have now gone back to my old routine of using a gentle cleanser and the bio-oil for the scars. Bio-oil works amazingly well.

Has anyone on here had problems when going off proactive? Did your skin end up getting better after a while of not using it?

I'm scared :(

Thanks so much for any answers :)

I totally understand what you are going through. I have struggled with my acne and tried Pro-active which my skin worse too. Many people think that because they have acne, they have oily skin. Proactive treats this oily skin. However many, many people get pimples because they are over drying their skin with acne products like proactive. Instead, you should use a regular bar of soap to wash your face at night. Then apply a moisturizer. I use Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer. It works wonders! Use a 10% benzyol peroxide spot treatment gel (you can buy on at virtually any drug store) on specific pimples and use it sparingly! In 2 weeks your skin should be beautiful. Good Luck :)

My father is a doctor and I have experienced the same problem

Look, i've tried a bunch of these products that you see on TV, none of them ever worked for me.
I gave up and I decided to eat healthy, drink lots of water, and i went to the gym at least 4 times a week. It works beautifully, your whole body starts to function satisfactorily. Maybe that's what you need to do.
