Hot tea with lemon and spices might give you some natural relief.
If it's not asthma, you don't need an inhaler from the doctor; you need medicine.
You can't afford to allow yourself to panic. As an asthmatic, you should have learned some about self-hypnosis so you could calm yourself. My wife commands her body to either release natural adrenalin, or else to go into a calm state and it works. You should learn the same... or another similar method like bio feedback or meditation so you don't go back on inhalers.

I have had Asthma all my life; I found that Singulair helps control the coughing, but Advair helps to keep my lungs relaxed. Since I have been on both my Asthma has gone from Severe and persistent to mild and persistent. Also exercise to strengthen your lungs and heart. One not uncommon problem with all asthmatics is this condition puts extra strain on the heart. Dying of a heart attack is not uncommon when in conjunction with an Asthma episode.
Personal experience for over 50 years. I am not a doctor, but a man with knowledge is always at the mercy of a man with experience.
Nothing at home unfortunately, though you don't sound unwell enough to be admitted. Contact NHS 24/Direct. They will supply an inhaler and possibly a short course of oral steroids.
