First of all just take a deep breath and know that you have plenty of people around you that will help you through this. Talk to your friends, teachers, counselors, and the rest of your family and I know that you can pull through. As long as you keep a positive outlook on life you'll be fine no matter what happens. Just think about the positive side of things and don't worry about the negative. Also remember that everything happens for a reason, and that whatever happens this will make you stronger, which is a good thing! And know that you and my family will be in my prayers.

And I don't know if you're a religious person, but I've had many family members with cancer and God has always been one of the main people to help me through it!

Personal experience

Firstly, know that you are not alone. There are other young people like you who also have a parent with cancer. Here is a website you might find helpful. It's been specifically designed for young people and has loads of info, forums and stories from young people who have parents or siblings with cancer, or who have it themselves. Here is the site: http://www.nowwhat.org.au/

All the best to you and your mum and I hope you find the above website a good online support service for you.

You need to have an adult support person to talk to.

This can be an aunt, a teacher, school councellor, someone from church, best friends parent.....

It depends who you feel you can talk to.

Cancer is scary, but you need to talk about it to get your emotions out.

Normally I advise people to talk to parents about issues, but when it is you mother that is going through this, it is often useful to have someone else you can talk to as well.

My mother had cancer when I was 11, and I had cancer when my daughter was 16 so I do understand it from both sides.

I'm am sorry to hear this and that you are having to go through it. Consider talking about your feelings with a favorite teacher or adult in your life. Choose someone that can give you some time to talk and share your feelings. You will feel better about it.

It may sound strange but cry if it will make you feel better. You are entitled to your feelings.

Good luck to you and your mom.

Focus on enjoying the time you get to spend with her, and be strong and supportive for her
