alopecia barbae or something normal?!

Question: Alopecia barbae or something normal?
im 18 and been getting some small circular patches of beard missing for upto a month at a time before it grows over again. it doesnt tingle itch or burn like ive read it can online but the skin looks ever so slightly whiter than the rest in the right light, any ideas? is it normal? could it be a skin infection instead?

i think it is alopecia as my grandfather stressed and had it very badly and i started getting the first patch after a day of great stress.

It does sound more like alopecia I agree. This is auto immune and these type of conditions do sometimes run in families. Bad news there is absolutely no useful treatment, good news it does usually burn out and stop happening after a while.

GP for more years than I care to remember

Alopecia areata can happen on the face as well as the more common scalp. If it always regrows and you shave, it may not be very obvious and so treatment may not be worth it. If you have a very dark beard and it is obvious, you may want treatment. Also seek treatment if it starts happening elsewhere. Often will screen for thyroid problems in those with alopecia areata. See the dermatologist if needed.
