Cough for over 3 months?!?!

Question: Cough for over 3 months?!?
Well, i have had a cough for over 3 months (It was before Christmas it started like November) And it still hasn't gone. One minute its really chesty and it sounds like i have loads of flem on my chest and the next its like a pathetic tickle that's dry. I know i should go to the doctors but i don't want him to ask me to cough and it be that stupid tickle. I was just wondering if anyone knows what it is? Thanks x

Could be walking pneumonia or TB or lung problem of another sort.

I had a cough that lasted about 8 weeks but not 3 months. You probably need antibiotics for one thing. Call the public health department and ask about free or low cost clinics.

Meanwhile, you could try cranking up the heat in your house to dry up a runny nose that could cause a cough from post nasal drip. It helped me some after the antibiotics.Avoid perfumes (esp. cinnamon pine cones) and make sure your furnace filter is changed and clean.

Coughing is the bodys reflex to something obstucting the trachea/windpipe or just generally the lungs, wether this is mucus caused by an allergic reaction or dirt/bacteria. You could have asthma, hayfever, an infected lung or possibly bronchitus, you really need to go see a doctor as it is not normal to have a cough for this long, there is obvisously something up. A doctor can take your blood pressure and listen to your breathing at the least and can tell you what it is and prescribe some antibiotics (if required) Seriously don't mess around with stuff like this, you need to see a doctor pronto, otherwise it could develop into a secondary infection (phenumonia) x

There's no proof that guaifenesin is efficacious.
It's been there for 3 months? Definately go to the doctor.
Is the phlegm green? If so, it'll be an infection which requires an antibiotic.
The longer you leave it the worse it can become.

Could just be lingering cold symptoms but I would definitely go to the doctor because it could also very well be something serious.

Persistent cough is also a symptom of reflux problems. It won,t do you any harm to get checked out by a doctor!
