it doesn't affect the chicken... that's why it's so hard to prevent it from ending up in our food...

eta: Salmonella isn't an infectious disease (ie: you put it in the wrong category)

but if you properly cook the food, you won't get sick

took a food safety course in University and I'm a chicken farmer...
