I have trouble keeping balance?!

Question: I have trouble keeping balance?
Everyday I have at least once instance where I lose balance/almost trip myself.

I'm very clumsy, but I really have bad balance; my dad has even started to say I have "mad cow" because I always seem like I trip.

The only thing that might have some medical relevance is something involving my ear. I remember hearing something in health class that said the ears and balance are somewhat related.

Anyway, my ears seems to throb everyday around bedtime; I'll be laying on my side and it starts to throb and I can usually hear some pretty weird noises that I can only hear when I'm on my side.

Any ideas?

Answers:

i don't think that the ears are related to balance overly. my brother had an ear infection as a child which left him with permanent damage. he is very sporty and has very good balance. i used to have bad balance. however when i started working out my balance improved. i think that the extra strength in the legs and the core area helped me. cardiovascular exercise helped me with my balance. however if you really do believe that it is your ear causing the problem then you could visit a doctor about it.

when I first read your question I already thought he must have ear trouble .Get your hearing checked by a specialist then have your vision checked

It could have something to do with the inner ear but probably not. The inner ear's fluid is useful for balance (that's why we feel dizzy when we spin in a circle, we've gotten the fluid swirling around) but an ear infection would cause you to be dizzy rather than clumsy.

Ruling that out let's look at other possibilities. I'm not trying to be mean or rude.
1) Carelessness, as in not watching your step or paying attention to things in front of you or not choosing firm footing while walking.
2) Laziness, as in not picking up your feet when walking. Strength training for your legs, back and core will fix this.

And my 3) could be serious.
3) Clumsiness can be (not is) an early warning symptom of MS.

So ruling out the ear thing be more attentive to the first two. If it continues you may want to have a physical exam and clearly tell the doctor about clumsiness as a symptom.

Watched as a friend developed MS, which we all laughed away as being clumsy.
