Ever wonder why they sterilize the needle for lethal injection?!

Question: Ever wonder why they sterilize the needle for lethal injection?
Just seems pointless to me. Does it really matter if someone who's minutes away from dying catches something from a dirty needle?

Answers:

OMG never really thought about that. Thats funny.....well kind of :-/

Maybe its not so much about worrying that the one being killed as much as it is the person starting the IV. You wouldnt want to save a dirty needle anyways. And all needles/IV kits are packaged sterile so its not like they have to sterlize it themselves at the prison. Also when you put in an IV you put the needle in the vein and then pull the needle out and leave the flexible angiocath in the vein. Once you pull that needle out of the angiocath a safety slides over the needle tip so you cant stick yourself with it. So you couldnt reuse it.

I can take two guesses:
1. some contaminates may affect the serum.
2. If a person survives the death penalty, they are free to go, in which case death by whatever was on the needle would be like giving a dirty needle at the doc's.
