Is it possible to have strep throat and a cold at the same time?!

Question: Is it possible to have strep throat and a cold at the same time?
I had severe throat pain and a fever for a couple of days (with no other symptoms), so I went to my doctor and she said I had strep (she didn't get the test back officially, but she put me on antibiotics already because she said she highly suspected it was strep). I've taken the antibiotics about 24 now, and my sore throat has almost completely disappeared as well as my fever.

However, this morning, my nose started running and I started sneezing and coughing. It feels a lot like a cold. At first, this led me to think that I had been misdiagnosed (since strep doesn't come with these symptoms). But colds are usually viral, and can't be treated with antibiotics, so if it were just a cold, then the antibiotics should have had no effect, which they did. So, is it possible that I actually have two different illnesses at the same time? If you have any guesses to what's going on, let me know.

PS- It's not allergies. I do occasionally get seasonal allergies in the late spring, but it's far too early in the year for that. In fact, it just snowed this morning.

Yes you can get both at the same time. I had strep and mono at the same time. Tested positive for strep and negative for mono one week ... was put on medication came back after it wasn't working and tested positive for mono a week later. It can happen and since you have been sick it is possible to pick up a cold or some other virus or bug easily since you immune system is already weakened by having strep. The antibiotic got rid of the strep ... its not going to touch a cold, so you would still have symptoms.

Drink lots of fluids and get some fresh air ... it seems to make cold go away faster :]

I just got over a cold/ sinus infection

You probably just had a cold. I have seen the same progression many times. Sore throat, then when the nose starts running the sore throat eases up. That's how my family has a cold.

In other words, the sore throat would have eased up after 2 or 3 days anyway. Probably had nothing to do with the antibiotics. You just had a cold.
