I have both GERD and a stomach ulcer. They are kind of opposites in that GERD normally causes stomach pain if you go too long without eating, or delayed pain after eating something that disagrees with you (tomato based foods, caffeine, mint, carbonated drinks, etc.). Stomach ulcers are almost an immediate pain, so I would lean toward this in your case. Either way, the treatment is essentially the same. Avoid foods that irritate the stomach lining or produce more acid and try an over the counter proton-pump inhibitor (Prevacid, Prilosec, etc.). These minimize the amount of acid your stomach produces, but most likely will not heal an ulcer. If you don't find that the proton-pump inhibitor is helping, try Zantac instead - it is commonly used to heal stomach ulcers in conjunction with the diet. Here is a list of foods to avoid:

I will add one more - FAST FOOD. It kills me worse than anything!

Most importantly, I would recommend going to the doctor to get a definitive answer.

Gerd is almost like acid reflux, my husband developed it after getting food poisoning, he was given Prilosec otc. You should got to a doctor to verify it is gerd because it could also be an ulcer.
