Asking My Dr. For New B/P & Migraine Meds? Beta Blockers.?!

Question: Asking My Dr. For New B/P & Migraine Meds? Beta Blockers.?
I am currently on the beta blocker Lopressor 25mg once a day for high blood pressure.
I am on Depakote for migraine prevention.
Both meds have a history of causing weight gain and I, sadly, am no exception.
Since September I have gained close to 30 pounds.
All I want to do is sleep. I can sleep for 14 hours at a time. Wake up, eat and go back to sleep. I'm usually even too tired to do my nightly bath routine.
( I mean like shaving & stuff that takes so long but is just for aethstetics I'm still washing)
My sex life with my husband is non-existant.
And perhaps one of the most disturbing side effects is the swelling of my legs! They are so swollen that I can push on them and they are "squishy" like Play-Doh! It actually leaves an impression!

My questions are:
1.) Is anyone else having this problem?
2.) Are there any other meds that I could ask about switching to that some of you have had success with?

Thanks!

Answers:

I can tell you that either you drink no water at all or very little. You drink a lot of soft drinks, coffee, energy drinks, etc.

You are dehydrated, my dear.

The swollen "squishy" legs is edema and it's caused by not drinking enough water. Because you're water deficient, your body's water management system is causing you to retain salt, which in turn, retains water. This water is being stored in the surrounding tissue outside the cells for injection into dehydrated cells that are water deficient.

Your blood pressure is also being caused by dehydration. The main function of the water management system is to protect the brain and other major organs from getting too little water. These organs are vitally dependent on water because their function is what keeps the body going.

The blood is made up of 85% water and salt. When the body borrows water from the blood, it does so using reverse osmosis to literally squeeze the water from the arteries, veins, etc. This is reflected in the blood pressure reading.

Migraines, too are caused by dehydration.

Click on the link below and follow the protocol you'll find. Please note that it involves using salt on a regular basis. This is accurate, especially for high blood pressure (contrary to the current medical beliefs, salt does not cause high blood pressure. You should use it on a daily basis to regulate the blood pressure). However, with edema, you're already retaining too much salt - it's just in the wrong place to do you any good. Therefore, you need to disregard the salt in the treatment for a few days until your body can wash out the excess salt in your legs - just drink the water. Once the swelling goes down, then start the salt portion as recommended.
