could i be allergic to lipstick?!

Question: Could i be allergic to lipstick?
i remember even as a child, on the rare occasions i would wear lipstick it caused an instant uncomfortable tightening and slight itch in my throat that makes me clear my throat over and over. due to this i was never a big lipstick wearer. but i am now in makeup school and it is on me all the time when my classmates are practising. the same probelem still occurs and i have realized that mac airbrush foundations cause the same thing. could this be an allergy? and could it get worse?

Yes, it could be an allergy.
Yes, it could get worse. Some people become so sensitive after repeated exposure they go into anaphylactic shock, which is life threatening. With the tightening and itching in the throat, I would avoid touching them on your skin. Have you talked with your doctor about this? He/she may want you to have allergy tests.

Do a search on the product and try to find all the ingredients. Compare that to the ingredients in the foundations and see which ingredients are in both products. You may find your allergen.

If you absolutely have to be made up in class, I would suggest you try the hypo-allergenic lipstick/foundations and see if you have a reaction to those. Be sure you have Benadryl on hand if you begin to have the tightening/itching in your throat.

Again, it may be a good idea to discuss it with your doctor and have allergy testing done. You may need to carry an epi-pen for emergency.
