Is an itchy palate a sign of an allergic reaction?!

Question: Is an itchy palate a sign of an allergic reaction?
I've often found that the roof of my mouth (palate) itches after I eat certain foods like bananas, bean sprouts, snap peas, etc. Sometimes--but not always--my throat will get to a point where I feel as though I have to clear it again and again and it clogs up. Does anyone know if this is a sign of having an allergic reaction? Or is it just high levels of certain things like potassium in these foods that do this to me?

Answers:

Yes, usually itching around or in the mouth is a sign of a food allergy. I have friends who are allergic to kiwi and strawberries, and their mouth itches when they eat them. Sometimes it can be the sign of other allergies though, for example in the summertime when my allergy to pollen flares up, the roof of my mouth itches like crazy. An allergist would be the best person to talk to if you want to get some more information.
