How do I find a doctor in Georgia (USA) who can perform an Upper GI endoscopy wi!

Question: How do I find a doctor in Georgia (USA) who can perform an Upper GI endoscopy without sedation or anesthesia?
I have a list here of 121 gastroenterologists that are covered by my insurance plan. Should I call up their offices one by one? I've done that a few times already, but their nurses and PA's never returned my calls, and I know there is absolutely no way to talk with these physicians directly on the phone. What should I do??? I'm starting to get desperate now. If calling doesn't work, I'm thinking I might just go storm their offices one by one, and refuse to leave until I get a definite answer from the physicians themselves. But that seems a bit drastic. What else am I to do, though???

Answers:

Most are happy to do it without any sedation or anaesthesia.
The recovery time is less and therefore they can do more in one day.
Don't worry about the gag reflex, you will gag but there is nothing you can do about it and the doctor doing the scope will simply ignore it.
They will sometimes offer to spray your throat with local anaesthetic to reduce the gag but you don't have to have that done either.
I had one done without sedation and one with.
I much preferred the one without.
Unpleasant but over soon and no after effects.
The sedation is for your own comfort, without it your gag is stronger but safer you can't choke so easily if you are fully awake.

Phone a few of them and I'm sure you will find one very happy to do it for you.

I should have said I am from Scotland. I apologise about that.
However I see no reason why you can't have it done in the USA.
The medical training isn't different in fact mine was done by a consultant with a USA accent.
It's just this problem of ensuring you get a doc that's going to do it.
I honestly don't see why they should refuse, it makes no difference to the procedure as you already know.
How many "tries" with consulting a doctor does your insurance allow? If it's more than one then book an appointment with one near to you.
If for any reason he or she refuses, ask their reasons and ask for the name of a doctor who does do it the way you want.

I'm back again....just thinking, your idea of storming their office isn't as extreme as it sounds.
It's harder to ignore a person than a voice on the phone.

"Tries" I just meant are you allowed to consult more than one doctor or does your insurance insist you use the first one you see.

Yeah, my U in mummi is a giveaway compared the American Mom:-)
Good luck in getting it done YOUR way.

Strongly consider sedation. It may be impossible to perform without it. I can't think of any time that I have even heard of endoscopy being performed without sedation. If endoscopy is necessary then be sedated so it can be done safely.

I Imagine that any doctor would be willing to work with you on this, but how do you propose the shut down your involuntary gag reflex when they shove the camera down your throat?
