Answers:

Your description, "a little heart thickening" is somewhat vague however, a slight thickening of the heart can relate to a number of conditions depending upon which part of your heart is thickened and by how much. Oftentimes this expression relates to thickening of the heart muscle, particularly in the wall of the lower chambers (ventricles). If it occurs within the left ventricle it is termed 'left ventricular hypertrophy' and if in the right ventricle, 'right ventricular hypertrophy.'

LVH may be related to a number of different conditions such as 1) High blood pressure; 2) Heart valve problems; 3) Inherited conditions of the heart muscle.

RVH is rare. It's main cause is pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary valve stenosis and COPD.

The thickening of your heart could become a real problem IF it worsens to the point that it interferes with your hearts ability to pump blood and so it is wise to do what your doctor has said which is to avoid salt and fatty foods which may help to prevent the thickening from becoming worse.

If you have high blood pressure do what it takes to lower it, naturally if possible (lose weight, exercise, deep breathing, eating potassium and magnesium rich foods etc..) first and then with the addition of supplements such as fish oil if you do not like salmon, sardines, mackerel, trout, etc ... and Vitamins C and E along with an anti-oxidant formula would be good.

If you follow a heart healthy diet (fish, chicken, whole grains, fruits and vegetables) avoid saturated fats (red meat, prepackaged foods, trans fats, and fast food and integrate an exercise program into your lifestyle you may even see your heart thickening return to normal over time.

Now keep in mind there are various conditions that present with a "thickening of the heart" and I have only mentioned two of those. You should ask your doctor what the correct terminology is for your particular situation and then do research to learn more or feel free to ask for more info here on Yahoo Answers.

Good luck :-)

well, it isn't a serious condition but will turn into one if you don't follow the doctors orders.
don't walk more then you are comfortable doing, and definitely cut down on fatty and fried foods, and avoid salt. you can't avoid salt completely of course because it's in everything, but DO NOT add any to your food.
