I am diabetic and my recent A1C level is 8.14. How bad is this?!

Question: I am diabetic and my recent A1C level is 8.14. How bad is this?
6 months ago my A1C level was 7.5. I take high does of Morphine and Neurotin for RSD pain.

Answers:

An A1c of 8.14 relates to an average glucose level of around 192 to 196 over the past 2-3 months, these are not good numbers especially if they're consistently high like that.

The bottom line is that your diabetes is progressing more rapidly then it would had you been better controlled.

At this point you should be seeing an Endocrinologist to guide you in getting those numbers down to more normal levels.

Good luck

Goal HbA1c is around 7 for diabetics (some say 6.5).
If you are newly diagnosed then it sometimes occurs that your numbers look good and then get worse (look up "honeymoon period").
Go see your doctor. You may need adjustments in your meds and diet. The morphine and neurontin should not interfere.
Good luck!

that's pretty bad. Ask your doc if either of those meds cause high blood sugar. Steroid medication will cause high blood sugar levels, not sure about morphine or nuerotin.

Have you been diagnosed with diabetes? Diabetes is generally diagnosed with an A1c over 6.
