What's the best to relieve nasal congestion?!

Question: What's the best to relieve nasal congestion?
I have bad allergies leading to nasal congestion which makes my nose blocked up, i have used nasal sprays but i find they work just for a little then its back virtually right away.

A friend told me that i could use a salt water mix and put it into a empty nasal spray bottle i have and use that to relieve the congestion is this a safe thing to use? and if so how much salt to water ratio and how often should i use it?
Thank you for any ideas, I appreciate it. :)

Scott.

Although nasal irrigation using neti pot works, it's not comfortable and not as effective/easy to use as a pulsatile nasal irrigator. If budget permits, I suggest you take a look at Sanvic's pulsatile nasal irrigator. It helps if you have allergy as it rinses out invading allergens in your nasal cavity.

The reason the nasal sprays worked temporarily is because you're dehydrated, and so when the immediate effects of the spray wore off, the symptoms returned.

The salt water mix mentioned by your friend will work, but again, only temporarily. The problem you're facing is the dehydration of the entire package - the whole body. This is what you must correct to completely do away with your symptoms, and it must be done from the inside, not through a spray or a neti pot.

Start increasing your water and salt intake. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water daily, adding 1/8 tsp of salt per each 16 ounces of water. The salt is best taken by letting it dissolve on the tongue and then washing it down with the water.

You could stick with the temporary remedies, of course, if you don't mind doing them all the time. In the meantime, however, the dehydration is still a problem and if left unchecked, may cause problems down the road.

the salt water thing works well. If you go that route, i would just buy a neti pot from the store, they come with premixed packets so you get the right concentration of salt so it wont burn you. Even if you get the right concentration at home, it still wont feel too pleasant because of the iodine in normal household salt.

Other than that.. buy some sudafed (assuming your blood pressure is okay) NOT sudafed PE. If your allergies are bad too, then try Claritin D, Zyrtec D, or allegra D... all are OTC now

boil a pot of water as hot as u can stand it and stand over it and this will work SO much better if u have peppermint leave...u know the spices u cook with but it will work fine with out it
