can cancer be transmitted through pregnancy?!

Question: Can cancer be transmitted through pregnancy?
just wondering, can a women who develops say skin cancer transfer it to her unborn child. cause to my knowledge cancerous cells can spread from one part of the body to another.

Answers:

It can happen, but it is rare.
I believe there are only 15 known cases of melanoma that has metastasized to a fetus.

I am a cancer registrar.

I'm pretty sure that being prone to develop cancer can run in a family. I had this friend whose boyfriend's mom died of cancer and so he and his little sister had to go to the hospital and go through the whole process to see if either of them were developing or at risk of developing that cancer or any other cancer. Given this, it's likely a pregnant woman with cancer could have a baby who has cancer or is likely to develop cancer.
