NeilMed Sinus Rinse issue?!

Question: NeilMed Sinus Rinse issue?
I went to an ears/nose/throat specialist concerning headaches caused by sinus inflammation. One of the things she recommended me trying is a sinus rinse.

I used the NeilMed Sinus Rinse about 20 minutes ago and followed all the instructions carefully. Now I have burning in my sinuses as well as my upper throat. Didn't use too much pressure or blow my nose too hard afterward. A little of the solution came down my throat but I spit it out as instructed. I read through their info on possible problems that can arise. One of them is this burning. They had a checklist of different things you could have done wrong that would cause this. None of them were the problem here. The burning has tapered off a tad but is still lingering. Any ideas what this could be or what caused it? The information in their packet isn't getting me anywhere. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I wondered if maybe a netty pot would work better with even less pressure, but if it was the pressure then why is my throat hurting?

Any input would be appreciated! :)

Answers:

If this sinus rinse system came with little packets of stuff you mix into the water, the burning would be from that - it is a salt solution, intended to shrink swollen nasal/sinus passages and yes, it does burn. The pressure generated by these is safe and switching to a neti pot probably will not make any difference. Everything you have described would be normal, including your throat hurting - also from the salty solution.
