Food allergies? mom doesnt believe me?!

Question: Food allergies? mom doesnt believe me?
I just had a prick test done for common food allergies this week, and it showed that I am allergic to corn, soy, lettuce, onions, beef and pork. After receiving the results, I decided that I wanted to drasticalyl change my diet, as I have not been feeling 100 percent for years it seems like now, and this is likely the cause. Im 20. When I told my mom about my plan to change my diet, she basically shot it down as me over reacting, worrying too much, etc. basically she like... didnt believe that I was allergic to them, even though the test results were right in front of her? I dont know what to do, as I cant buy all my own food due to money issues and mom doesnt seem to be taking me seriously, any suggestions?

Answers:

How about, "Mom, Do you not care about my well being?"

Guess it just depends on how important this is to YOU. You're 20 years old. Old enough to take control of your own life. And to be thinking/planning/preparing to get away from your parents anyway. In the meantime, you can't control what your Mother cooks, but you can control what you do, or don't, put into your mouth. If she sees that you're serious, perhaps she'll adjust her attitude.

Have her talk to the dr's office via phone it's your health. I've never heard of a mother being so cruel not protecting their childs health... Best wishes

Have a counseling session with u mom and dr. School cafeterias are going through same thing.

my son is allergic to 7 different foods; he's only 2. However, when the results came back, the dr. explained to me that there were four levels of severity. 4 being the worse reaction. She said that my son's allergy reaction to soy and milk for example was a 2. So I do give him a bit of milk because he needs it but his allergic reaction is just a bit of itchiness; his eczema reacts a bit. So maybe you can stil eat some of those things if your reaction to it is not as bad. I mean, you've been eating those things for 20 yrs right? You might not have to completely change your diet maybe just lower your intake or replace with fruit when your mom cooks what you're allergic to.
