Not sure if it's worth going to the doctors?!

Question: Not sure if it's worth going to the doctors?
I am an 18 year old male, and I think not 100% sure but I think I have lung cancer.
I have only suffered one symptom so far, but most people just say the same thing, "it might be lung cancer"
since I have been born everyone I know has smoked, my parents, friends. EVERYONE. It pisses me off because I have never smoked before and if I have got lung cancer I am going to kill everyone I know.

Anyway, I have breathing problems anyway due to panic disorder, but if i breathe deeply my whole right lung/chest hurts only until I breathe out again. Also it feels as if there is a lump in between my lungs. No other symptoms, no coughing, or blood. but isn't that what cancer does? Hide it's symptoms?

I go to the doctors alot as it is, looking for panic help. But is it worth dying?

What would you suggest it is?
What would you do?

Answers:

First, at age 18, the chances of you having lung cancer is very, very low. This might be something as simple as some muscle strain/inflammation of your chest wall muscles and if taking some motrin makes it go away, it could be this. You would not be able to feel a "lump" present in this area - your ribs protect your heart and lungs and you cannot palpate a lump. If this is just a sensation that you have, it could be possible that your esophagus might be causing these symptoms. As others have stated, if you go to the doctor a lot, have this discussion with your doctor about what your symptoms mean. Without other symptoms, I do not believe you have something so serious right now that you are going to die but your family doctor would be your best resource.

That does not sound like lung cancer at all. This is all panic related. Yes, your lungs/and chest WILL Hurt if you breathe deeply. No, this is not cancer. My Uncle quit smoking 60 years ago, and suddenly coughed up blood. He was diagnosed at stage 4 and had 3 months to live....Go to the doctor if you are concerned, but I will guarantee they give you a clean bill of health with a simple chest xray, and listening to your lungs.

I have no clue who “most people” are, but teenagers do not get lung cancer.

I am a cancer registrar.

If you already go to the doctor a lot, ask him your question the next time you go.
